COLIN APPLEYARD HITS CHARITY TARGET FOR MACMILLAN

macmillan-cheque.jpgThe Colin Appleyard Group has helped to collect thousands of pounds for people affected by cancer across the region by raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
In the last year employees have organised a series of very successful fundraising events and secured sponsorship by raising money from the Tour de France, an Evening with Ian Hutchinson and the very popularGoldwing Open Day.
At the end of May Karen Halifax and Tony Moyle ran the Edinburgh Marathon, whilst last month Colin’s daughter Judith Parker and John Appleyard – no relation - took part in theGreat North Swim at Lake Windermere. Pete Holmes followed this by tackling the Great North Run last weekend.
Hayley Cooke, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said, “Colin Appleyard employees continue to amaze us with their dedication and enthusiasm for fundraising. The company set a fundraising target of £12,000 to fund a Macmillan nurse for three months and to date £12,378.57 has been raised to support people affected by cancer”
Colin Appleyard employees are encouraged to get involved with charities and causes that are important to them.  With more than 1 in 3 people in the UK developing some form of cancer during their lifetime, a decision to help raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support was made in 2012.
Robin Appleyard, the firm's managing director, said "We're really proud of our passionate employees, who have raised an extraordinary amount to date, and we look forward to continuing our support for Macmillan to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.”
Hayley Cooke continued, “The need for local support is more urgent than ever as new figures predict that by 2020, almost one in two people will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives. Macmillan Cancer Support believes no one should face cancer alone and with the support of the local community we are urging more organisations and individuals to get involved with the charity”.
