Team Appleyard Macadam aiming for Triple Top in 2019 after successful Portimao test
Taking advantage of the two-day Official BSB test at the International circuit of Portimao in Portugal, the Integro Yamaha squad are ready to battle for a third consecutive Dickies British Supersport Championship crown.
With dry weather and a warm track surface the Team Appleyard Macadam Racing team worked through a wide range of settings and reacclimatised their star riders Jack Kennedy and Brad Jones after the long winter break.
Logging up over 100 laps each on their finely tuned Yamaha YZF-R6 machine, both riders explored outright lap time performance and longer run duration for tyre management over race distances.
Irishman Kennedy was immediately back to his 2018 title winning form, circulating within a second of the seasoned Superbike riders.
After finishing the season so strongly, young charger Jones gained valuable tracktime and was clearly enjoying his first visit to the Algarve circuit, hanging onto the leathers of his experienced teammate.
With the whole team working smoothly together and both riders finishing strongly, the squad are looking forward to the new Dickies British Supersport Championship re-commencement at the Official Test and Media Day at Silverstone on April 9th, before the series starts in earnest at the Northampton circuit a fortnight later.
We’ve made good progress over a cracking couple of days at Portimao. We had a plan coming here and we stuck to it. The team worked flawlessly as always and I’m really happy with my pace, which had us mixing it up with the Superbikes. I’m looking forward to getting back to the UK now to try out the data and knowledge we gained here in Portugal.Jack Kennedy
Overall it was a great test for me, with a lot to take in as it was my first visit to the track but what a circuit it is! We had many things to work through whilst we were here and the team have done a great job to improve the bike so I have a good feeling. We did loads of laps and a good race duration run on day two brought the test to a positive end, so we’re now ready to pick up and continue when we get back to the UK!Brad Jones
This test worked on so many levels as the riders and technicians got to try loads of settings in a non-pressure environment with plenty of dry track time. Jack was flying at near top Superbike pace and Brad was hanging onto him towards the end of the test. The Dickies British Supersport Championship is looking ultra-competitive for 2019 so we need to be on the top of our game to fight for that third title!Robin Appleyard
