Review: New Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen

We asked our Clothing Advisor Lauren to give us her take on the new Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen. Here's what she had to say...

Well, where do I start? The quirky looking Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen certainly gets a lot of looks! The single cylinder, paired with its light weight, gives the 401 the power to keep up with all other A2 licence bikes on the market and pulling back the throttle on this little machine definitely gives you a rush of adrenaline!

The 401 Svartpilen is fun, a lot of fun, and it drops into corners and gets round them with effortless grace. The WP rear suspension paired with its WP upside down forks allows for a smoother ride and doesn’t throw you out of your seat going over bumps and potholes. Its seat is also rather comfy. I took the Svartpilen out for a couple of hours and unlike with my own bike, didn't suffer from any discomfort or numbness. Top marks, Husqvarna!

"Pulling back the throttle on this little machine gives you a definite rush of adrenaline."

Being just 5'3" and despite wearing heeled boots, I did struggle a little with the height of the bike but with it being so light it does make it very easy to manoeuvre.

Having only had 3 years experience on the road and currently riding a four cylinder motorbike, this was definitely a different ride than I'm used to. It took me a little time to get used to the engine braking, as well as remembering to give it more throttle before letting out the clutch.

All in all, this bike was a lot of fun and very easy to ride and I'd definitely recommend taking it out for a test. I'm already looking forward to having a go on the 701 version!
