Huge crowd turns out for Motorcycle stars
Over 200 motorcycle racing fans crammed into Colin Appleyard's Keighley bike showroom recently to enjoy an evening of entertainment with Team Mackenzie who are one of the country's top motorcycle racing families.
They are certainly not your average family next door! Father Niall is a triple British Superbike Champion and former GP star whilst sons Taylor and Tarran are current holders of the British Superstock and Supersport Championship titles respectively.
The team were joined on stage by Jack Appleyard, son of managing director Robin, who compared the evening and quizzed all three on their racing careers. It certainly proved to be excellent entertainment for the large crowd.
Jack is well known on the bike racing circuit as he regularly takes to the microphone at British Championship meetings.
Reflecting on the success of the evening. Robin Appleyard said: “Our ‘Evening With’ has now become an annual event on the Colin Appleyard calendar and it just seems to go from strength to strength. This year has definitely been our best yet! I don't think we could have squeezed many more people in if we'd tried! Our thanks go to Niall, Taylor and Tarran for giving up their time. It was a great evening.”
No charge was made for the event but the audience, who enjoyed a pie and pea’s supper and refreshments, including a glass of Guinness to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, contributed generously to the raffle and auction which raised £1600 for Manorlands Hospice.
The auction prizes included Taylor’s racing leather from the 2015 season and a pillion ride with Niall at his home circuit Knockhill. Team Colin Appleyard gave VIP tickets to a British Superbike meeting including a commentary box experience with Jack. Kawasaki also chipped in with a signed limited edition print of Jonathan Rea the 2016 World Superbike champion who is also leading the 2017 championship.
