Appy Ambassador Gunning for Gold in Rio

Honorary Yorkshireman David Stone MBE, a triple Paralympic Gold Medal cyclist, took time out from his busy training schedule last week to call into our Nissan showroom to thank Colin Appleyard for our support over the last two years. David was appointed our official Nissan Ambassador in 2014 as the Nissan looked to help promising athletes in their preparations on the ‘Road to Rio’.

He started cycling in 1995 and made his international debut in 1996 but following mixed results at the Sydney Olympics, he lost all his enthusiasm for the sport. However, after three years he was back on his bike and was quickly picking up world titles culminating in two Gold Medals at the Beijing Paralympics. This was followed by a further Gold and Bronze at the London Games. Prior to flying off to Rio, where he is hoping to add to his tally of medals, David will spend two weeks in Italy acclimatising and training at altitude followed by a final two weeks last minute preparations.

As part of his role as a Colin Appleyard Ambassador, David has had use of a brand new Nissan Qashqai, the UK’s top selling crossover car. In return David has made a number of personal appearances throughout the promotional period. Commenting on the sponsorship David said: “I’d like to thank Colin Appleyard for their support over the last couple of years. I am extremely proud to have had this partnership with them and Nissan. Getting sponsorship is not easy so to get the backing of a world renowned car manufacturer is incredible. The Qashqai has been a great car to drive, so comfortable, and its size has made transporting my bike so much easier.”

We wish David the best of luck in the 2016 Rio Paralympic games!
