SUBARU'S STI FORESTER RETURNS
The Subaru Forester has been around since 1997, and it's always been one of those Marmite cars that you either love or hate. It was one of the first compact crossovers, even before they even thought up the word "crossover", so we can safely say that it has blazed a trail into the motor industry that other manufacturers were relatively slow to copy. We love it, by the way.
Now that the compact crossover is very much in vogue – you only have to see the sales figures for the Nissan Qashqai to see the truth of that statement, there's a new Forester coming along hoping to take its crown as the king of the crossovers. Subaru drivers are a fiercely loyal lot, and any new model announcement brings a shiver of excitement to enthusiasts.
Set to debut in November 2015, teaser images of the new Subaru Forester STi have surfaced online and we couldn't be more excited that this trail blazer has returned. Pictured in signature blue, the new Forester is rumoured to feature upgraded rolling stock and some hefty brakes as well as more aggressive aero and cooling. Its dad having gained a cult following, the foxy looking new Forester STi could close the gap between the 250hp 2.0XT and the 305hp WRX.
It's been ten years since Subaru produced one of the first performance SUVs with the original Forester STi and although it's still unlikely to be officially sold here in the UK, it has earned enough avid fans to make it worth importing. Knowing Subaru, we expect this new Forester to be fully kitted out with a similar powerplant to the turbocharged flat-four engine in the Impreza STi and a very capable four-wheel drive; as well as (hopefully) a six-speed manual gearbox.
If reports are correct we hope to be looking at a 0-60mph time of less than six seconds and a top speed of about 150mph. Unfortunately, information is scarce before the lead-up to the reveal in late November 2015. Roll on next year, we say.
